One move that may have gone under the radar this summer for Tottenham Hotspur was the loan of Yusuf Akhamrich to Leyton Orient. The 21-year-old Moroccan winger was among the multitude of Spurs youth players sent out to the lower levels of the pyramid for a season of development before being assessed alongside the first team. Those in the know saw this as an important move for the player after he impressed on loan during the second half of the 2025-26 season with League Two side Bristol Rovers, scoring six goals and adding one assist in 19 appearances. A step up into League One would provide a real litmus test for the young winger.
While it may be only eight appearances into his loan spell, it is already clear that Akhamrich has quickly settled into the Leyton Orient side and looks ready for the challenge of England's second tier. In those eight matches, the Moroccan has netted three goals and registered an assist in 519 minutes of action. Akhamrich got onto the scoresheet in his third start for the club, netting a goal in the 58th minute of Orient's 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic. According to FotMob, the winger finished with a rating of 8.1 in the match, which included seven defensive recoveries to go along with his strong attacking play.
His most impressive display occurred just over one week ago when the forward contributed two goals and an assist in Leyton Orient's 5-0 thrashing of Bromley in league play. After assisting Jaze Kabia's opener, Akhamrich took control of the match with two goals in the opening six minutes of the second half to secure the victory for the O's. The Leyton Orient win ended an impressive 27-game unbeaten streak for Bromley at the Copperjax Community Stadium.
That performance earned plenty of praise from Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens, who said, "I think Yusuf has got the potential to become the best player in the league."Wellens is not the only one heaping praise on the winger following the performance. Lilywhite Rose added to the growing list of positive assessments of Akhamrich, saying, "Yusuf has always been a good player in his own right. … What's great about Yusuf is that he's come straight from League Two last year, which he smashed at Bristol Rovers. They absolutely loved him, and he has gone up a division to League One and looks totally the same level. … He's just like a magician, he's a difference maker, he comes on, he scores goals, he makes things happen. He's got the ability to beat a man."
How has this "magician" gone under the radar in North London? Position may have something to do with it, as Spurs have a plethora of talented young wingers who have continued to make headlines over recent seasons. Mikey Moore was a force last season on loan with Scottish side Rangers as he earned Scottish Young Player of the Year. Additionally, names like Luca Williams-Barnett and Tynan Thompson have typically dominated the conversation when discussing the young talent at Spurs. Thompson's summer exit to Manchester United has certainly made Akhamrich's path to Roberto De Zerbi's first team much clearer.
It may be early, but keep the name Yusuf Akhamrich on your radar. It may be League One and League Two, but double-digit goal contributions over 27 matches by a 21-year-old is nothing to bat an eye at. More importantly, Akhamrich has now shown that his success at Bristol Rovers was not simply a product of playing at a lower level. He has stepped up to League One and immediately looks capable of making a difference.
For Spurs, that could prove to be significant sooner rather than later. With another season of development ahead of him, Akhamrich is beginning to make a case that he deserves to be part of the club's first-team plans sooner rather than later. This could be one of those loans that makes a BIG difference for Roberto De Zerbi's side.
